The suicidal tendencies of wizards and vampires, and why they matter.

Alright, so a few days back I made the point of Edward’s near-suicide making him cowardly. A person or two replied with something along the lines of “lol but harriett potty tried to get voldie to kill him in deathly hallows!!1! xD”

I laughed, I raged, I laughed some more. And now, here I am, rebutting it!

Edward tries to get the Volturi to off him in New Moon because of a poorly-researched assumption that Bella, the Mary-Sue to his Gary-Stu, had kicked the bucket. He can’t imagine life without her (the girl he’s known for less than a year), believes it to be his fault, all that jazz. He ends up NOT self-pwning because, guess what, THE BITCH IS ALIVE.

I have a problem with this because his life at this point has become so dependent on one person that, in his hasty decision to expose his glittery adonis scintillating marble figure to humans, he is being completely selfish. He doesn’t even think about his family, who would indubitably be crushed by his death. It’s so easy for him to make that decision, which is moronic and just… no.

Harry, on the other hand, has been fearing death for seven years before he walks calmly into Death’s arms. He is sacrificing himself for the Wizarding World’s safety, or as Albus Dumbledore would say, for the Greater Good. It’s not easy for him; the chapter in which he approaches Voldemort is so touching and riveting because we see what he believes to be his final thoughts. We see how he cares about ALL the people he’s leaving behind, not just Ginny. We see how he loves them and comprehends the scope of what he’s doing.

Harry was doing what his mother did for him, but not just for one person— for an entire world. It is the purest form of sacrifice, and something that takes unfathomable courage.

If you’re going to compare the two situations, do some damn research.

I’m just going to leave this here

TEAM HARRY!
